Every year in America, over eight million adoptable animals are put to sleep; over 6,500 right here in York County! The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) has been rescuing stray and abandoned animals in York, Lancaster, and Mecklenburg counties for over thirty years. Last year, they found loving homes for 534 animals and in the last 10 years, HSYC has saved over 5,000 animals from being euthanized.
Our non-profit no-kill shelter relies on contributions from the community as we struggle to meet our monthly expenses of $30,000+. We are supported solely by donations from caring groups and individuals, proceeds from our thrift shop, grants, fundraisers, and pet adoption fees. We receive no funding from the Humane Society of the United States and little funding from the local government.
