In the past two years my fiance and I have adopted a dog and a cat from the shelter and couldn’t be more pleased with our little family! When we first started dating we went to the shelter to get a puppy. Matt fell in love with a small boxer-hound mix who was skinny with dry skin, dull fur, and a swollen belly (still recovering from worms). The story is that he and his siblings were tossed on the side of the road in a cardboard box. Luckily, someone found them and brought them to the shelter. By the time we got there, he was the only one left. We took him home and named him Ali (after the boxer, Mohammed Ali). He is now 65 lbs with a beautiful red coat, goofy looking ears, and the saddest wrinkly face you’ve ever seen. He loves to cuddle and runs to my lap when he’s scared, despite his size. He’s never been remotely aggressive- only sweet and playful. Ali goes everywhere with us and may as well be our first born son. Oh, and did I mention he’s going to be the ring bearer in our wedding? Around New Years, Matt and I decided it was time to add a new addition to the family. We wanted a kitten and so we returned to HSYC. . . only to find all of the kittens had been adopted over the Christmas holidays. But then I remembered a special kitty I had seen last time I visited and I asked for the 6 mth old kitty, Forest Gump. To my surprise he was still there! Forest Gump is a special needs kitty who was born with neurological damage to his brain (his cerebellum which controls his motor skills was damaged- if I’m remembering biology class correctly). As a result, he looks drunk when he walks because he wobbles, falls into things, and occasionally runs into walls. He also fails to land on his feet. But he acts just like any other cat would act- curious, energetic, and loving. He purrs constantly and is incredibly entertaining. Because of his funny movements, I decided to rename him Mr. Wobbles. He’s now very happy in his new home and already getting so big! He loves Ali, follows him everywhere, and even cuddles in the doggy bed with him. I highly recommend HSYC to anyone looking for a pet. I love my babies so very much and enjoy spoiling them! Thank you HSYC for everything you do!
